Emily

I’m a 35 year-old Virginia native who returned to Roanoke in 2019 after several years living elsewhere (California, New York, and Richmond.) I’m a graphic designer by trade but I’ve been freelancing and homemaking for the past few years. I have a consistent longing to create, manifesting in photography, writing, cooking, planning, designing, and of course, this blog.

I married my best friend Daniel in 2010 and we spend a lot of time exploring, laughing with/at each other, and learning to appreciate each others’ hobbies. (New for me: rock climbing, a new appreciation for aviation history. New for him: being dragged to every museum in town, copious amounts of whatever foreign food kick I’m currently on.) Our son Desmond was born in October 2018.

LIKES: Traveling, exploring locally, to-do lists, live music, movies based on books I’ve read, road trips, Tumbling stupid gifs relating to the last TV show I watched, Kit Kats, trying all of the trendy new restaurants near us.

DISLIKES: Mustard, the unpredictable Virginia weather, when the movie based on the book sucks, clutter, TV show spoilers when I’m behind, running out of Red Rooster coffee.

Em Busy Living

I first started blogging on my Myspace profile in 2005. My first actual blog was created when I moved to NYC for school in 2009. Wanting to start fresh, Em Busy Living came about in the spring of 2013 as Dan and I decided to pick up our lives and move to California. It has now become a space where I share places we explore (in our current home city or as we travel), reviews on books I’ve read, and honest personal posts on my current life.
