Jockey’s Ridge is the largest natural sand dune area in the eastern United States at 426 acres. Located in Nags Head between route 158 and the Roanoke Sound, the highest point is typically around 100 feet high with 360˚ views. It’s free to visit between 8am and 6-9pm, depending on the time of year, and is perfect for hang gliding and sand boarding—a favorite activity of mine when visiting as a child.
My photos don’t do this place justice. You have to see it for yourself.
